CCR Questions

Name: Christopher Hayman ________________________   Creative Critical Reflection 1.       How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? The commercial for the product that I used, Nike Air Max shoes, uses the convention of showcasing the abilities of the shoes and why they will benefit the viewer. Like many shoe commercials, it uses close-up shots of the shoes and how they are being used. However, it challenges conventions in that it doesn’t begin with a slow, dramatic tone like many other shoe commercials do. My commercial represents the group of people that are passionate and sports and athletics very well, because it advertises a product that they can use to better themselves in sports.   2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text? My product engages audiences by demonstrating a powerful pair of shoes that can be excellent to exercise and compete with. Al

Commercial is Done!

I am very excited that our commercial for Nike shoes is finally complete. Sarah and I have spent several weeks working hard on it, and it is incredibly satisfying to see it come together in the final product. The best part of this project was being able to insert our creativity into a real piece of media. It took a long time to complete and perfect, but it was a unique experience and I learned a lot while doing it. I learned how to plan and execute digital media and how to showcase creative talent through it. I also learned how to edit footage and merge it into a full-length film, which was incredible. Also, I loved being able to advertise a company that is as well-known and liked and Nike. Being able to demonstrate the greatness of their products was awesome. We are very happy that this commercial has come to be what it is now. Our work has definitely paid off, and we can't wait for you to see it!

The Final Touches

After multiple weeks of working on this project, my Nike shoes commercial is finally coming together. Today, Sarah and I did a lot of work to edit and perfect the video. Once we were able to access the video and the editing app, I immediately got to working with her. The bulk of the work done was cutting and snipping. Many of the clips had to be cut into a split screen. There is one point in the commercial that involves several different clips of the shoes all fit together in one screen, so a good portion of them had to be cut into here. However, all of the clips in this part of the commercial involve close-up shots of my doing foot and leg exercises with my feet. Most of the ones that involve me running or kicking a ball will be full-screen shots. In addition, the clips had to be sped up slightly. The commercial's tone is very fast-paced and energetic, so the footage needed to match that. Adjusting the speed was fairly simple, though, and only involved changing it to a slightly

Putting It All Together

Today, Sarah and I began the editing process of the commercial. This is the next and final step of the project before it is completed. Firstly, I had to look through the takes with Sarah and find the best ones to use for the final product. In addition, it was a challenge to try and find a good video editing app for the project. However, I was able to do some editing when I got home. Sarah and I both took part in editing the video. While she did a lot of editing since she had the recordings on her phone, I participated in the editing and also searched for a video editing app that would be good to use. Eventually, the takes were able to be uploaded onto a computer. I made sure to keep in touch with Sarah so she and I could share details about the editing process. Editing the commercial involved doing many things to perfect the commercial. I had to add in audio, create good transitions, and add logos and words. The first thing I needed to do in order to begin editing was to organize the

Final Day of Filming

Image
Today was my last day that I had to film my commercial. Once I was able to leave, I went out with my partner, Sarah, to find a good place to pick up where we left off. I made my way over to the indoor stairs in building 20 to film the next shots. There, Sarah filmed me walking up the stairs several times. Just like last time, I wanted the focus to be on the shoes, since that's what the commercial is about. After finally getting the perfect shot, Sarah had me walk across the floor so she could get audio to use for the commercial. Next, I did some takes walking out the door of the building 20 stairs. It took several reshoots, but eventually I was satisfied with the outcome. Afterwards, I went over to the media center in order to film a specific scene. I found an adult in the media center and asked her if she would be part of the commercial, and she said yes. For this scene, I had to take some books from her hands and start shelving them. This scene was fun because I enjoyed having

Today, Sarah and I went to work on filming our commercial for Nike shoes. First, we went out to the softball field behind building 17 to film some shots. These shots consisted of me (I was wearing the Nike shoes) performing different drills and routines with the feet, such as jogging in place, side hopping, and foot and leg stretches. Sarah used her camera to film these shots, focusing on my feet in order to emphasize the shoes. The shots of me doing these exercises are going to be in a compilation of shots near the end of the commercial. When we finished these shots, we walked over to towards the track and football field. As we walked, Sarah recorded audio of my footsteps in the grass to use in the video. When we arrived at the track, we set our bags down and made our way down to where the starting line was. Then, Sarah filmed me getting in a starting position and then breaking into a sprint. Again, we made sure to focus heavily on the shoes. She then had me walk through the grass,
